Balaoa, Tadian

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

As gathered from unwritten sources, the community of Balaoa was just a plain slope of a mountain Tabeo gave birth to one of the sitio of Balaoa. Following the advice of the wise men of Tabeo, the owner of the place. Other families of Tabeo followed Posdo and become community the place was known as Mageymey.

HOW BALAOA GOT ITS NAME

One time during the Spanish period, a group of Spaniards arrived at Mageymey during that period and ask the name of the place, the leaders of Mageymey answered Balbalawa, presuming the name they were asking was the name of the animal toy they were holding. The Spaniards on the other hand thought they were right and pronounced Balbalawa to Balaoa, which is carried up to present, Balaoa now has many many puroks namely:

Dadangtayan,

Papakde-an,

Gawa,

Ketang,

Kebasan,

Bangsaan,

Lumnek

Salamagui

Muling

Picong

Sinegbat

Cadcad

Poltiyeng

Polpoligan

and three (3) sitios namely:

Cabunagan

Balaoa Proper

Balbalaan

GEO-PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS

Balaoa is accessible through the national road passing through to one of its sitio Cabunagan. The Cabunagan Ilocos Sur road is branched from Cabunagan junction which is belted almost around the place. It is located 4 kilometer southeast of poblacion, on the sdouth by Barangay Tue, on the east by Abatan and Mayag, Bauko and west by barangay kayan East. It has an approximate land area of 620 hectares with average elevation of 1,360 meters above the sea level.

Transportation

Tadian is accessible to all types of vehicle. It can be reached from Baguio City by 6-7 hours ride through buses (Rising Sun, A Trans, Cordillera Transit and Mt. View Liner) passing through the historic Halsema Highway. It can be reached also from Bontoc by 2-2 ½ hours ride through vans, public utility jeepneys and mini-bus. Tadian also is near at Cervantes, Ilocos Sur by 30 min. to 1 hour ride only.

There are seven trips daily to Baguio City emanating from the three zones of the municipality with one trip coming from Aluling, Ilocos Sur, just about 2 kms. Away from Cervantes, daily trips to Bontoc are eight and one trip to Abatan, Buguias, and Benguet.

SCHEDULE

Schedule in transportation Bontoc going to Tadian is everyday. There are vans and bus to go there and the last trip of van is 5:00 in the p.m..
