Uncle John is my Dad’s brother… he is a very good man full of humility and integrity. God gave him a second life after a massive stroke few years ago… we hope and pray for a longer life and more prosperity… with support from his immedaitely family. we love u, uncle!

Thanks Alfie for the comment. If you are from Tadian, I would welcome your contribution to write about Tadian. The maintenance of the mountainprovince.net website is a one man job and I would really appreciate write ups from all of us here in Mountain Province. I have a regular day job so whenever I find time to update the contents, I really do. If ever Tinoc and other places are mentioned, it is because the articles are either contributed from my students or writers like Glo Tuazon. I’m sorry to disappoint you but as always, we can collaborate. I am based here in Bontoc and please note that I have no biases on municipalities. There’s just a dearth of articles from the municipalities.

This is a very inspiring success story of self-help initiatives especially for rural development. Decades after the several initiatives of the international development community to boost development in the rural areas, I see the same related problems of exploitative low wages, lack of capacity among villagers, and the dependence on government dole-outs. Added to this is what you rightfully mentioned about government-initiated associations to implement a loan/grant that does not prove sustainable (i wish i do not need that overused word) after the project has ended. Include our seeming lack of dedicated rural development workers. In the health sector, I observe there are many dedicated ones, just look at the Bontoc RHU. I have to be convinced about those in the other sectors especially the much-funded agricultural sector. Anyway, do we have similar success stories of self-help groups for DTI projects in Mountain Province, for instance? Thank you so much, Joel, for this article. It inspires those of us who are about to give up in development work.

I have seen a video while performing in thier Igorot attire. They seem very talented group. I hope they will come to the U.S., I would surely go watch them. Do they have a regular show in Bagiuo , or anywhere in the Phillipines? I would like to watch them live. All this great talents coming from the Cordillera. Keep it up Pe’tune.
